Historic Charm Meets Modern Comfort
As anyone with a historic property knows, balancing old-world charm with modern comfort can be a real challenge. For Justine and her family, their 105-year-old home – a beautifully restored church in Nelson – was full of character. With its gorgeous natural wood panelling, stained glass windows, and unique character, the house is a stunning place to call home. But there was one big issue – parts of it were freezing.
“The bedrooms had insulation, but the main living area was a different story,” says Justine. “We’d light the fire and get the room nice and warm, but by the morning, it was back to freezing. The temperature difference between the lounge and the bedrooms was so noticeable.”
The family knew they needed wall insulation but didn’t want to risk damaging the beautiful interior by pulling down walls. “We love the natural features, and keeping them intact was really important to us,” she says.
Researching the right solution
Justine first heard about Insulmax® from a colleague and then did her own research online. “I looked at the testimonials on their website and specifically searched for houses like ours,” she says. “I wanted to make sure it was the right fit for an older property, and everything I read made me feel confident.
“Cameron from Insulmax® visited and confirmed they could insulate the walls from the exterior. It was such a relief to know we could keep the interior untouched,” says Justine.
Back to bare feet
Although the insulation was only installed a few weeks ago, Justine and her family are already noticing a huge difference. “It’s just so much warmer,” she says. “The house feels different now – it just feels cosier. I’m usually someone who lives in Ugg boots, but now I’m walking around in bare feet!”
And while winter hasn’t arrived yet, Justine is confident the house will stay much warmer. “The air feels better, and the temperature is more even throughout the whole house,” she says.
Done with no disruption
Justine says the installation process couldn’t have been easier. “Because the work was done from the outside, we didn’t have to move furniture or take artwork off the walls,” she says. “The team was so tidy and professional. They finished the whole job in just two days, including repainting.”
She was also impressed by the thermal imaging camera the team used to confirm every corner was insulated. “It was really interesting to see it in action and reassuring to know they hadn’t missed anything,” she says.
Winter ready
For Justine, Insulmax® has been a game changer. “It felt like a really worthy investment. We’re thrilled with the results,” she says.
With insulation now in the walls, her once chilly church is transformed into a warm and welcoming home that’s ready to take on the coldest months. “The difference is already so noticeable,” Justine says. “I have no doubt that winter will be so much easier this year—we won’t be waking up to freezing mornings anymore.”
The best part? The original charm of the home remains intact. “I’d definitely recommend Insulmax® to anyone with an older house. It’s made such a big difference already!” she says.
